Melanie Berry McCraney is the founder and President of McCraney Communications. An established public relations practitioner and corporate communications specialist, Melanie has more than 20 years experience in media management and strategic communications.

Melanie’s PR focus includes media and community relations, corporate communications, business-to-business marketing, event planning and crisis management. Melanie was an independent PR practitioner before founding McCraney Communications in 2001. She began her communications career in the newsroom as an award-winning radio news executive. Melanie’s freelance work in broadcast journalism includes reporting for NPR’s “All Things Considered” and “Morning Edition,” The Associated Press Radio Network and others. As News Director for top-rated stations, Melanie received numerous Associated Press Broadcast Awards including “Best Investigative Reporting,” “Best Anchor,” and ” Best Newscast.” She also served as a Judge for the Edward R. Murrow Awards.

Melanie has served on the board of directors of the Junior League of Birmingham, Childcare Resources, the Alabama Ballet, Hand- In- Paw, Terrific New Theatre, The YWCA and the YMCA and serves on the Advisory Board of the School of Communications at UAB.


Laura McCraney

As Director of Digital Influence Laura McCraney spends most of her days browsing Facebook, twitter, instagram and other social networks studying trends, taking notes and finding ways to help our clients increase engagement with their audiences. In addition to traditional public relations practices such as managing special events and distributing press releases, Laura designs and implements social media initiatives for clients and trains coworkers and clients in social media management.

Prior to joining the McCraney Communications team, Laura was Production Coordinator for the Birmingham Business Alliance (BBA), where her responsibilities included digital strategy and execution, and overseeing the editorial work flow and production process for BBA print and online content which include a website, magazine and special publications.

McCraney has served as Executive Director of the Alabama Social Media Association (ALsocme), is a charter member of the Birmingham Young Professional Kiwanis Club, the Education Chair of the Birmingham Botanical Gardens Junior Board, and serves on the Altamont School’s Alumni Association Board of Directors and Magic Moments Junior Board. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Spanish at the University of Alabama.
